Abron or Bono Bible Translation Project
Bible Society of Ghana
Job Description
The Abron or Bono Bible Translation Project is intended to meet the scriptural needs of about 2 million Bono-speaking people. The Bono are one of the ethnic groups of the Akan group in Ghana, West Africa. The Bono territory is geographically situated between the savanna and forest environment and also shares boundary with Cote D'Ivoire. These make it a prime central location for trade. The Bonos are a people committed to ancestral worship but Christianity is gaining appreciable ground.. In the past the Bonos felt comfortable reading Asante Twi literature and writing in the same language. They have however realized that the best way any information can be transmitted among any language group is in their own mother tongue whether expressed orally or in writing. Having the Scriptures in their own language will help understand and appreciate the Scriptures better and to guard their language against gradual extinction. This translation is therefore intended to give the Bono people a translation of God's word in their own language.
